Terms & Conditions – Engineering Hackathon, First Edition

By participating in the Engineering Hackathon, the participant agrees to the following Terms and Conditions:

The content of the submitted idea must not conflict with the provisions and principles of Islamic Sharia or public morals.
The submission must not infringe any rights, laws, regulations, or local or international provisions, nor encourage any such infringement.
Participants must disclose any contractual relationship with another party, including talent management, business representation, or similar arrangements, where such a relationship may fully or partially prevent participation in the Hackathon or restrict the Saudi Council of Engineers’ ability to use the submission or its content.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the applicable laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the competent judicial authorities in Riyadh shall have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or related to participation in the Hackathon.
The Saudi Council of Engineers shall not be liable for any material or non-material damages incurred by a participant as a result of participation in the Hackathon.
The Saudi Council of Engineers shall not be liable for incorrect or inaccurate information resulting from human error or technical failure, including loss, delay, or deletion of data, or failures involving communication lines, computers, networks, software, or any other cause that may prevent access to the website. Participants are responsible for ensuring that their materials are submitted correctly.
Participants acknowledge that all information, designs, works, documents, and content submitted to the Hackathon do not contain offensive, defamatory, threatening, contemptuous, unlawful, or otherwise prohibited material. The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to reject or disqualify any submission, and the participant shall bear all resulting criminal, civil, and administrative liabilities.
Participants must have full legal capacity to accept these Terms and Conditions and must satisfy any applicable third-party rights. The participant shall be solely responsible for any breach of this requirement.
The Saudi Council of Engineers shall not be responsible for legal proceedings arising from a participant’s violation of any rights, laws, or regulations, including confidentiality obligations.
The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right not to disclose the judging results for final submissions.
Registration in the Engineering Hackathon constitutes consent to sharing the idea with the Saudi Council of Engineers or its authorized representatives and to subjecting it to the approved evaluation process.
In the event of any dispute concerning the intellectual property of a submission or any other related dispute, the participant releases the Saudi Council of Engineers from liability for resulting material losses or damages and shall bear sole responsibility for any infringement or breach committed by the participant. The Council or its authorized representative may disqualify the participant.
Participants represent that the information, designs, works, documents, and content included in their submissions do not infringe third-party intellectual property rights and that they have the legal authority to use and submit such materials.
All intellectual property rights relating to the Hackathon name, title, logos, marks, designs, materials, and content owned by or developed for the Saudi Council of Engineers shall remain the property of the Council.
The Saudi Council of Engineers shall not be liable for intellectual property claims relating to materials uploaded by participants or for any infringement of registered intellectual property rights arising from such materials.
Participants may withdraw from the Engineering Hackathon at any stage before the announcement of the winners by submitting a withdrawal request through the official Hackathon management email address.
The Saudi Council of Engineers and the Engineering Hackathon management team shall not be responsible for disputes arising between members of a participating team.
If a team wins a prize, the prize shall be delivered to the team leader who completed the registration through the website.
The Saudi Council of Engineers or its authorized representative may publish Hackathon submissions through media channels, and participants consent to the use of their submissions in media, promotional, advertising, and publicity activities related to the Hackathon.
The team leader must attend all stages and days requiring attendance and personally complete the required stages and deliverables. No other person may substitute for the team leader without official approval from the Saudi Council of Engineers.
Participants must maintain full honesty and integrity throughout all stages of the Hackathon.
The same work may not be resubmitted, copied, duplicated, or derived from another participant’s submission. Any proven violation may result in disqualification.
If two similar submissions are received from different individuals or entities, the submission date and time shall be used for Hackathon administration and comparison purposes only and shall not determine ownership of any intellectual property right. Ownership and priority remain subject to the applicable laws and regulations.
Participants consent to the Saudi Council of Engineers producing promotional materials and using winning submissions and winners’ names through available media channels.
By using the Hackathon website, participants acknowledge the Saudi Council of Engineers’ right to retain submitted files and related materials, including detailed files attached to the application form or sent by email.
By using the Hackathon website, participants acknowledge the Saudi Council of Engineers’ right to request further information or supporting documentation to verify the authenticity of a submission.
The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to share participants’ information and documents with its advisers or any entity it considers appropriate.
If a winner is found to have violated any of these Terms and Conditions or committed a legal violation for the purpose of winning the Hackathon, the participant shall be subject to the applicable criminal, civil, and administrative liabilities and penalties.
Acceptance into the Hackathon does not constitute automatic qualification for the final stage. Submissions will undergo the approved screening and evaluation stages to select the strongest submissions for presentation before the final judging panel.
Participation in the Hackathon does not provide any additional advantage in relation to the Saudi Council of Engineers’ current or future services, products, or contracts and shall not positively or negatively affect the participant’s current or future dealings with the Council.
At any stage of the Hackathon, the Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not comply with the Terms and Conditions, evaluation criteria, or overall direction of the Hackathon, or for any other reason the Council considers grounds for disqualification.
The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to cancel or amend the prizes without prior notice, and participants shall have no right to object.
The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time. Participants are responsible for reviewing them and keeping informed of any updates.
By using the Hackathon website, participants acknowledge the Saudi Council of Engineers’ right to retain and make use of registration data.
Registering an idea in the Engineering Hackathon does not constitute registration of the idea as intellectual property. The owner of the idea is responsible for taking the necessary steps to protect and register any related intellectual property rights.
Participants grant the Saudi Council of Engineers or its authorized representative a license to use, display, publish, transmit, reproduce, and reformat their submissions for media and promotional activities related to the Hackathon, while respecting the participant’s intellectual property rights and avoiding disclosure of information or details where publication may affect the ability to protect the resulting outputs under applicable laws and regulations.

Intellectual Property Rights

Intellectual property refers to rights associated with creations of the human mind and intellectual and creative output, including, by way of example, inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, trademarks, symbols, names, images, and other innovations and creations.

Due to their intangible nature and the possibility of unauthorized use, exploitation, or attribution, intellectual property rights are protected through mechanisms including patents, copyright, trademarks, and other forms of protection, helping preserve owners’ rights, regulate their use, and encourage creativity, innovation, and investment in intellectual output.

Participants in the Hackathon must comply with the following:

Participants retain the intellectual property rights they own and grant the Saudi Council of Engineers a license to use, exploit, display, and publish outputs submitted or developed during the Hackathon for purposes related to the Hackathon, its promotion, and public awareness, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Where two similar submissions are submitted by different individuals or entities, the date and time of submission shall be used for Hackathon administration and comparison purposes only and shall not determine ownership of any intellectual property right.
Participants grant the Saudi Council of Engineers or its authorized representative a license to use, display, publish, transmit, and reformat submissions for media and promotional activities related to the Hackathon, while respecting participants’ intellectual property rights and avoiding disclosure of details where publication may affect the ability to protect the outputs.
Participants represent that the information, designs, works, documents, and content submitted do not infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties and that they have the legal authority to use and submit such materials.
Participants represent that no third-party rights, contractual obligations, or legal restrictions prevent them from submitting their participation.
Intellectual property rights relating to the Hackathon name, logo, materials, designs, and content owned by or developed for the Saudi Council of Engineers shall belong to the Council.
The Saudi Council of Engineers may retain detailed files attached to Hackathon application forms or submitted by email.
Participants consent to the Saudi Council of Engineers producing promotional materials and using winning submissions and winners’ names through available media channels.
Where a submission is made by a team, all team members represent that they have the right to submit it and that the information regarding their respective contributions is accurate. Team members are responsible for determining and regulating the rights arising among them from the submission in accordance with applicable laws and any agreements between them.

Legal Responsibility for Participation in the Hackathon:

The Saudi Council of Engineers shall not be responsible for legal proceedings arising from a participant’s violation of applicable laws, regulations, or rights.
A submission must not infringe any rights, laws, regulations, or local or international provisions, nor encourage such infringement.
If a winner is found to have violated the Terms and Conditions or committed a legal violation for the purpose of winning, the participant shall bear the applicable criminal, civil, and administrative liabilities and penalties.
The Saudi Council of Engineers reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not comply with the Terms and Conditions, evaluation criteria, or overall direction of the Hackathon and also reserves the right to cancel or amend prizes without prior notice.
By using the Hackathon website, participants acknowledge the Saudi Council of Engineers’ right to retain submitted files and related materials in its records.
Participants must maintain honesty throughout all stages of the Hackathon and, where attendance is required, must personally complete the required stages and procedures. No other person may act on their behalf without official approval from the Saudi Council of Engineers.
The Saudi Council of Engineers may request additional information or supporting documentation to verify the authenticity of a submission.
Participants must disclose any contractual relationship with another party that may affect their eligibility to participate or the Saudi Council of Engineers’ ability to use the submission or its content.
